Host a Donation Drive

Planning a Donation Drive

Hosting a drive can be a fun and rewarding way to make a difference in your community!  To host a successful drive complete the following steps.

In person or virtual?  It’s up to you!

In person events can take place at a community center, church, school, in your home, or in partnership with a local business. Set up a location where donations can be dropped off.

Virtual events can be done via our Amazon Wish List or by creating your own personal fundraising page. Contact us at giving@shariascloset.org to set up your own personalized virtual fundraising page.

Sharia’s Closet is always in need of new socks, new underwear, hygiene items, and gently used men’s clothing. Check here for the updated list of our most urgent needs and let your donors know those are the items that are most needed.

If you choose to do a hygiene item drive and assemble hygiene kits, click here for a detailed list of items to collect.  Kits can be made for men, women, children, and babies.

-Set a goal for your drive – do you want to collect 100 pairs of new socks?  Or enough hygiene items to make 30 hygiene kits?  Set a goal and communicate this to your supporters.

-Set a deadline for your drive to create a sense of urgency.  Let people know the dates you will be collecting items.

Spread the word through social media, posters, flyers, and word of mouth! Make sure to include location, dates, and list of accepted items.

Ensure your donors abide by the following donation guidelines:
-Socks and underwear must be NEW
-Hygiene products must be new and unopened
-Used clothing must be gently used – no rips, stains, piling, etc

Clothing should provide people with a sense of pride, dignity and respect. If you wouldn’t wear it yourself or give it to a friend, please don’t donate it.

Make it easy for donors to drop off donations and have a designated area for the collection of items.

Reach out to info@shariascloset.org to arrange for delivery of donations.

Before dropping your items at the closet:
-Hygiene items should be assembled into hygiene kits
-Socks and underwear should be separated into sets of two and labeled by gender & size
